Geogard 221 is a broad-spectrum cosmetic preservative used in skincare, haircare, and personal care formulations to protect products from bacteria, yeast, and mold contamination.
Description
- INCI Name: Benzyl Alcohol (and) Dehydroacetic Acid (and Water/Aqua depending on supplier)
- Appearance: Clear to pale yellow liquid
- Type: Broad-spectrum preservative system
- Best pH Range: Works best at pH 2–6, especially below pH 6
- Solubility: Water-soluble / water-dispersible
Usage Rate
Typical recommended usage:
- 0.2% – 1.1%
- Most formulators commonly use:
- 0.5% – 1% in lotions, creams, serums, shampoos, conditioners, and toners
How to Use
- Add during the cool-down phase
- Recommended addition temperature:
- Below 40°C for best stability
- Final formulation pH should be checked and adjusted below 6 for optimal preservation performance.
